Hillel of Greater Philadelphia

Hillel of Greater Philadelphia is comprised of 4 centers:
1. University of Pennsylvania
2. Tri-College Center (Haverford, Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore)
3. Multi-Campus Center
4. Graduate Center

The University of Pennsylvania has one JCSC fellow and the Multi-Campus Center has one. Hillel of Greater Philadelphia (HGP) has approximately 20 staff persons which all meet together every few months. For the most part, each center works independently. However, there may be one or two regional projects during the year that all the centers will work on together. This year, those projects included Come on Baby Light My Fire, and Studio 54, two region-wide parties planned by me, the Penn program director, and a student committee from all the different campuses. There is also a Regionwide Shabbat every semester with a rotating location. Our students are also together on Birthright trips, and for other community events.

Rabbi Howard Alpert

Howard is the Executive Director of HGP. This means he might do anything from signing payroll checks, to meeting with donors, to provide support for the entire HGP staff. Howard can be called upon to fulfill rabbinical functions at any campus, should the need arise, since he is currently the only rabbi on our staff. Also, any contact with the press usually needs to be cleared through him , especially in the case of a statement in the name of Hillel.  The regional administration offices are located in Penn Hillel.

Gail Cantor

Gail is the Administration Director, which means she is the queen of all our paperwork! Gail is the woman to go to for any accounting issues, health care questions, etc. You can find her on the top floor of the Penn Hillel building.

Ellen Ronfman

Ellen is the Director of Development for HGP. This means she spearheads all efforts in the fundraising and long-term planning arena, including the financing of the new buildings for both Penn and Temple Hillels. In the past, the Development Director has run phone-a-thons on many of our campuses, when students become telemarketers to alumni, parents, and other friends of Hillel.  Ellen is responsible for identifying and soliciting donors for all the Hillel centers in HGP.

Milton Westray

As bookkeeper, Milton has the real control of HGP:) He writes up all checks for Gail/Howard/Bonnie to sign. If you want to find out the status of a particular check, Milton is the one to call.
